Carolyn Worsham with husband, Bill |
||
Carolyn Worsham's earliest recollections in life are bridge games played by her mom in her living room in Port Neches, so taking up social bridge in college was just a rite of passage. In 2001 she left the "dark side" and reluctantly began playing duplicate bridge at the Beaumont Bridge Studio with friends from Pleasure Island and midcounty. Before long Carolyn and faithful partner, Linda Briggs, began their journey toward Life Master -- requiring 500 points. The "Sailorbration" was enjoyed by 22.5 tables of players and other friends and family members.
Carolyn's Family (L to R) Brad, Liz, and Haley (Heathsville, VA), Laurie, Bill, Lee, and Margaret (Austin, TX), Carolyn and Bill (Port Arthur), and Kim (Portland, OR) |
||
Linda Briggs hosted the event, sharing personal stories of a friendship and bridge partnership spanning over 50 years; Tipton Golias recognized Carolyn as "a jolt of endorphins for the Beaumont Bridge Studio"; and Juanell Jones, bridge mentor for four years and former co-worker at PN-G High School, offered a toast.
Hostesses and kitchen helpers included Beverly Broussard, Linda Briggs, Juanell Jones, Donna McFerrin, Mabel Matthews, Lynda Jones, Marilyn Adams, and Lou Ida Rising. The traditional sign announced the event. | Ed Rasmussen very ably "herded the cats" as director.
During the program Carolyn was presented with a James Avery medallion with an anchor on one side and "Life Master" on the other.
Daughter Kim, helped with the medallion. | Carolyn took the microphone to thank those who had helped on the journey. | "Bashful" Anna Smith saluted the crowd. |
The feast was enjoyed by all! | Tommy Engelking provided a GREAT pecan pie! | Anna Smith was recognized for her "over-the-top" attire. |
Players toasted Carolyn,... | ...and the game began!
